$5.99

Durga Puja is here! What does it mean to a child? New clothes, laughing with friends, yummy food and being immersed in a colorful cultural experience. Step into this book and share in Riya’s excitement as you watch this festival come alive!

‘Celebrate Durga Puja With Me!' is part of the series 'From The Toddler Diaries' and celebrates Durga Puja as experienced by 3 year old Riya. This artful portrayal of the '5 Days of Pujo' appeals to young and old alike. Shashti, Saptami, Ashtami, Navami and Bijoya Dashami - the cultural colors have a pronounced Bengali connection, but are universal to Durga Puja celebrations the world over. Woven in poetry and color, it is easy to read and has been enthusiastically endorsed by children and their parents.

A charming and informative book. A great way to introduce children to the culture.

~ Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni, Award winning author of ‘The Mistress of Spices’ and ‘Before We Visit the Goddess’

When I read Shoumi Sen’s Celebrate Durga Puja With Me, brilliantly illustrated by Abira Das, I must admit that I want to witness at least one Durga Pujo in my life…

Shoumi Sen

Created by Shoumi Sen and woven in poetry and color, ‘From The Toddler Diaries’ is a series of children's books on Indian culture & mythology.

Shoumi is a Strategy, Sales and Marketing professional at a leading global energy management company and currently lives in Los Angeles, California with her husband and 3 year old daughter. Her childhood in Paris, Bombay and Dubai provided her with opportunities to appreciate how Indians preserve their cultural connectedness even while living abroad.

In the words of Maria Adcock - "Passing down heritage from one generation to the next is a natural desire for parents. This may prove more challenging if the dominant environment which children are immersed in differs from the culture the parent seeks to promote. One traditional way parents have passed down their heritage is through story telling.

Shoumi Sen, a mother of Asian Indian descent, decided to write her own stories to teach her daughter about her culture. She created “From The Toddler Diaries” which started as a collection of poems she wrote for her daughter and shared with other children. Inspired by interest from kids and encouraged by their parents, she decided to publish the collection."

Her widely acclaimed book ‘Celebrate Durga Puja With Me!’ portrays the culture and celebration of Durga Puja as experienced by 3 year old Riya. The book has a pronounced Bengali connection, but is universal to Durga Puja celebrations across several communities.

This is her first published book and has provided inspiration for other authors. ‘I am happy that this could mean more literature available to our kids in an environment where diverse books are still hard to come by.’
